Using Video in the Classroom

Film may be used in many different ways in the classroom.
1.  Students may make videos to present information to the class.  This will keep students at a certain time limit when presenting.  This will also help students that are a little shy since they can just press play and then don't have to say anything to the class.
2.  Teachers can use video in the classroom to keep students engaged.
3.  Videos are great when using a substitute teacher.
4.  Videos can also be seen outside of the classroom when students need the material presented multiple times.

Using Powerpoint in the Classroom

Powerpoint can be a powerful tool in the classroom, but it can also distract from student learning.  Here are some tips to make powerpoint more effective for teaching.
1.  Be willing to pause the presentation to let students make predictions and have class discussion.
2.  Use images in your powerpoint since this is a visual tool anyway.
3.  Make your slides available to your students.  Especially any students that might need the extra time to look at them.
4.  Do not try to put too much information in one slide.  Spread it out to make it easy to read.
5.  Never just read your slides.

Blogging Ideas in the Classroom

Teachers can use blogs in their classroom to engage their students using some technology.  Here are some tips to effectively do this.
1. Create a class blog and have students comment on it every week.
2. Have each student create a blog that they post on once a week or so.  Also require students to post constructive comments on at least two other student's blogs each week.
3. Create a study group blog for the class where students may discuss the homework and the material covered in class.
4. Use blogs as a reflective tool to help students journal their projects.
